This lens is very near and dear to my heart. I just think the topic of RubikCubism is way interesting and way cool. Yes, it’s very geeky. Basically, I’ve been charmed by the Rubik’s cube since middle school but never thought about doing anything artsy with it until a good friend sent me a link to a Rubik’s cube mosaic exhibition. Suddenly, everything just clicked. The idea is so simple, and yet, the results are so impressive! Especially to non-cubers. For non-cubers, the Rubik’s cube definitely has some mystique about it. But really, believe me when I say that it’s quite easy to do just one side of the cube. That’s why I also wanted to include instructions on how to make your own Rubik’s cube art and try to encourage people with images of my own really simple (yet cute!) mosaics.
This lens was the second lens I created on Squidoo. It’s really quite a niche topic and my page is fifth link on the first page of a Google search for Rubikcubism. Many people on Squidoo talk about making lenses for niche topics, and I think it’s not a bad idea. Since this topic is not huge, it really doesn’t warrant a website on its own, but it’s nice to be able to bring together what I consider the best links on the web on this topic. I got a lot of favorable reviews when I put this page up in the “Critique Me” forum and got a huge traffic spike for a few days. That really put my ranking up above 1000, especially with all the star rankings I received. Seems like star rankings are really important for lensrank. Though this lens currently gets about 35 hits a week, it’s my top lens by far because it has so many rankings and several people favorited it. However, I haven’t quite figured out how to keep the lensrank up so everyday, it’s slowly dropping.
Maybe it’s time to start taking Susan Villas Lewis’ suggestions for creating backlinks. (See comment on previous post.)
