Lens Intro: 10 Billiard Trick Shots

Posted by: mosaic In: lens introduction

As I’ve mentioned before, one of my good friends is a professional trick shot artist. Because of him, I couldn’t help it but become interested in trick shots myself. Some of the tricks are really physics-defyingly amazing. One of the many questions he gets asked on his website is “What’s a good beginner trick shot?”

On my lens 10 Billiard Trick Shots to WOW Your Friends, I’ve put together a short list of trick shots that answers just that question. It’s a survey of trick shots that are relatively easy but have the most interesting effects, something that will catch the attention of a skeptic. On many websites, trick shots are typically shown by video with the first frame being an overlay of the shot. However, to make my lens more of a teaching lens, I decided to stick with just the pool table shot diagrams. The videos are easily found once you click over to Tim’s site.

Maybe it’s a little too much information, maybe it’s not enough. When I put the lens up in the forum, one comment I got was that there should be more pictures showing the shot. Well, I figured, people who already play pool can understand the text and pictures can’t really help you put english on the ball. I imagine the visitor scans through the diagrams and text of the trick shots and if he or she is interested, clicks over to the more detailed tutorial, which oftentimes has extra photos. For the sake of layout and readability, I decided to leave the pictures out. This is really one of those organizational lenses where I haven’t personally generated any new content, but I hope that presenting information in this manner will be useful.
