Lens Intro: Rent Paperbacks and Audiobooks

Posted by: mosaic In: lens introduction

I gotta say, I totally thought of this idea! Netflix for books! Okay, I’ll admit that though I came up with the idea on my own and discussed it with friends, I didn’t bother doing anything about it. Well, there are a couple of companies out there that do this, and one of the successful ones is Booksfree. You can read about how it all works on my lens.

The basic gist is that you can sign up for a membership. Each month, you’re allowed to read as many paperbacks or listen to as many audiobooks as you want. When you’re done with it, send it back in the prepaid mailer and wait for another book in your queue to arrive at your door! The level of membership determines how many books you can have out at once.

Are you skeptical? Are you thinking, why not just go to a library? There are lots of reasons why renting books makes sense. Avid readers already know that buying books can be quite expensive.

This is the first lens I’ve made since being accepted to PepperJam, so we’ll see how this goes. I hope to make a lot more book lenses where I can also place these links. I followed Captain Squid’s PepperJam tutorials, although, I’m not too clear on pixel counting or whatever it is. I used the generated URL like he said but didn’t put in any of those single pixel images from the text ads….
